Paper Bag Album

Have ya' wondered where I've been :) ? I've never, ever made a paper bag album yet, and I've wanted to make one for a really long time. I looked online for some instructions and, WOW! Paper bag albums have come a long way baby!!! I found some awesome videos on Youtube by The Paper Trail for mini albums. I loved one of them so much, I set about to make one of my own :). That's where I've been... making paper bag albums! I had so much fun! I used the Everyday Enchantment DSP from the Sale-a-bration brochure. What PRETTY paper! This post has 19 photos so be prepared to be here for a few minutes :)...
The top of the book

The entire front cover (made with duck cloth that I painted with gloss acrylic paint)

Close up of the rose (Very Vanilla, inked with Peach Parfait)

Close up of the butterflies- added Dazzling Details

First two pages- the left side has a pocket

Pages 3 and 4- I used the Two Tags die and the Scalloped Envelope die

The other side of the center flap on pages 3 and 4

Pages 5 and 6- I used the Top Note and Beautiful Wings embosslit

Pages 7 and 8- used the Scribble Swirls Sizzlit and the new Hearts embosslit

Pages 8 and 9- not done yet

The last page and the back cover

Each page is two bags and makes two pockets side by side

I alternated punches to make the tabs on the pull outs that fit inside the pockets

Here you can see the two pull outs in the two pockets

Side view of the double pockets

The duck cloth cover from the side

The duck cloth back cover- the cover is all one piece and adhered to mat board covers

The pockets from the side

The side view pockets and flaps. There is a flap between each page.
I used coordinating card stock and inks to the Everyday Enchantment DSP- Pool Party, Lucky Limeade, Calypso Coral, Poppy Parade, and Peach Parfait. I used lots of stuff, including several punches and several dies, so if you have a particular question about any of them, please fire me an email :). Have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by!

Blessings!

More French Foliage

All right, so I was pretty into the French Foliage stamp set the two days I worked in my stamp room last week. After I got done with my box that you saw yesterday, I worked on this little autumn album. The cover is a Bind-it-all Cover All that I had just gotten to try out. It came with craft paper already on it and I LOVE the look of craft paper, so there was no need to do anything else, but stamp on it :-). Oh,  and add the strap...

Back and spine of the book
You don't have to have a Cover All to complete this project. You can make your own covers if you have a way to bind your books or you can use the On Board Journal from Stampin' Up! (108495). The inside has 6x6 Very Vanilla pages with some Old Olive, Cajun Craze, and More Mustard pages thrown into the mix. I haven't gotten to decorating the pages yet, but as autumn leaves begin to turn, I'll be adding some of those photos to it. Maybe when I get it done I'll re-post the completed book :-). Have a wonderful day today!

Blessings!
Barb

Jolly Holiday!

Good Morning everyone! Yesterday I made some little mini scrapbooks from the Jolly Holiday Designer Series Paper. I LOVE the Jolly Holiday paper :D. I used the Scallop Square die to make the covers and the pages. I normally use acid/lignin free matboard for my covers. The matboard makes nice sturdy covers, but it's also archival quality. It's really easy to die cut the Designer Series Paper for the covers with the same die- no sanding, no fussing, a perfect fit :-).
The first page as you open the book...
I alternated the inside journaling/photo pages with Old Olive journaling lines/Cherry Cobbler photo mat....
With Cherry Cobbler journaling lines/Old Olive photo mat. I stamped the little deer from the Winter Post stamp set (LOVE that set!!!) with Early Espresso ink on each journaling page.
To finish off the book, I tied two little jingle bells with gold crochet thread to one of the binding wires. These don't take long to make and they are great little brag books to haul around with you or make several with different themes and keep them in a basket on your coffee table. These are a good size for sharing your favorite photos with family and friends without taking up too much space. I hope you all had a wonderful week and that your Christmas To-Do lists are very small :D. Mine is still pretty big, but I'm checking stuff off my list one by one! Have a blessed day today!!!

Blessings!

Faux Hand tooled Leather Mini Book

I had to wait for my flower to dry so I could finish up my faux hand tooled leather mini book :-). I tied raffia to the coils- it just seemed to be a good touch ;-).
The flower was die cut and I used the side that my cutting plate left impressions in. After you use your cutting plates for a while, all the cut impressions in the cutting plate will leave those impressions on the wrong side of your die cut. This is good for those times that you actually want that texture, lol! I very lightly brushed my sponge with Night of Navy ink on it over the flower to bring out the texture that was left from my cutting plate. I coated the flower and the leaves with Crystal Effects- which is what I had to wait for to dry. I got impatient though and finished it with my heat tool. The Crystal Effects blistered just a bit, but I kind of like the look of that :-).
The inside cover and a couple of pages from inside my book....

If you'd like to make faux hand tooled leather for a mini book or to use on your cards, please see the tutorial below this post for how to do it. If you want to know what stamp sets I used, drop me a line. I usually put that information, but I'm kind of in a hurry today :-D. Have a great day everyone!!

Faux Hand tooled Leather Part 1

When I went to Hobby Lobby to get origami supplies for my daughter, I went to the scrapbooking section of the store and found these awesome aged book covers. I just loved them and decided that I could pull that off at home, lol! I took it a step further though and made faux hand tooled leather. I'm going to have to do this tutorial in three parts because I have 11 photos :-). I used two 4" coasters for my covers because we know someone who owns a restaurant and he gave me a ton of them for free! Gotta love it :-) !

Here is what you will need:
Paper:
Crumb Cake card stock- cut into 4x4 squares and corner round each corner (or you could trim after adhering to your covers)
Classic Stampin' Ink:
Early Espresso, Cajun Craze, Soft Suede
Other Supplies:
Finial Press Textured Impressions embossing folder
Brayer
Sponges
Yes glue
Royal Coat satin decoupage medium

Step 1. Take 2 pieces of 4x4 Crumb Cake card stock and run them through the Big Shot in the Finial Press embossing folder. These will be your covers- front and back.

Step 2. Ink your brayer with Early Espresso ink and brayer over the Finial Press embossed card stock covers. You may have to do this a couple of times, but do it lightly so you don't get ink on anything except the raised areas of the embossed card stock.
Step 3. With Cajun Craze and a sponge, lightly sponge over each cover, leaving some areas un-inked.
Step 4. Again with Cajun Craze, sponge over the edges and a few areas of the card stock to deepen the color of the ink.
Step 5. With Soft Suede ink, sponge over the areas you didn't sponge with Cajun Craze and also on the edges. You will want the Cajun Craze to show through the Soft Suede so don't ink too heavily.

See post #2 below for the rest of the instructions...

Faux Hand tooled Leather Part 2

Step 6. Crumple up the card stock, but be careful not to tear the edges.
Step 7. Smooth out your crumpled card stock and flip it face down. Apply Yes glue over the entire back surface. I use my finger to apply because I get better coverage and it also helps to smooth out the card stock so that it lays flatter. Apply it to your coaster and run the brayer over it several times to get good contact with the coaster. Check the edges and smooth them down with your thumbs if needed.
Step 8. After your glue dries, apply one thin coat of Royal Coat Satin Decoupage. When it dries completely, it will have a very slight shine. You don't want it too shiny because you want it to look like hand tooled leather :-).
Step 9. For the inside covers, you will ink the card stock the same as you did on the outside covers. Crumple the inside covers and very lightly, rub your Cajun Craze sponge over the wrinkles. Apply Yes glue as in Step 7 and apply to the inside covers. Apply Royal Coat.
This is what the outside cover and the inside cover look like together.

See post #3 below for the rest of the instructions....

Faux Hand tooled Leather Part 3

Step 9. Sponge the edges of your Crumb Cake pages with Soft Suede.
Step 10. Punch holes in your covers and in your pages and assemble.

This is what the inside of your mini book will look like :-).
And the outside cover. The satin Royal Coat puts just enough shine on the covers to make it look like the smooth hand tooled leather that you often see on saddles. I'll be back later with my completed mini book so you can see the finished book. I haven't finished it yet at this posting :-D.

Let me know if you have any questions and I hope you'll try this technique!

Blessings!

Autumn is Coming

I'm sorry it has taken me a week to get back to my blog. It's taking us longer than I thought to adjust to our new schedules :(. But here I am finally. While waiting at the rink while my daughter is practicing and being coached, I decided to make my wait time productive :). I brought my supplies with me and worked on another Flip Album. This time I used some retired Designer Series Paper that I hadn't used up. I try not to use retired stuff too much on my blog, but sometimes you just gotta use that stuff up! This can be done though, with the new autumn DSP (Autumn Spice- 120808) in the Holiday mini :D.
On the cover, I used a non-Stampin' Up! (gasp!!) die cut leaf. It was just the right size for my cover and I've had this die cut laying in my die cut box since before I became a Demo. It was time to use it :).
I made a pumpkin with one of the oval punches and stamped the pumpkin leaf with one of the stamps from the Falling Leaves stamp set. I stamped the word 'autumn' with my Schoolbook Serif alphabet and added some die cut flowers from the Birds and Blooms Sizzlits. The centers of the flowers have been embossed with the Square Lattice embossing folder.
I used the sentiment from Falling Leaves and the Word Window and Modern Label punches on the next page.
Here is the book opened up. Not quite done yet with embellishing it. I need to take it to the rink with me again, lol! On the inside flaps of the book in the photo below, I thought I would add more flower die cuts from Birds and Blooms.

So there ya' have it. I really love making these Flip Albums. They are just too awesome! You can fit a lot in them and they fold up to 6x6 square. You could make several in different themes and keep them in a basket on your coffee table. Great way to show off your photos :). Have a wonderful day today everyone!!!!

Blessings!

Just for you Kim!

I was going to wait until Monday morning to post this project, but I came to my blog this morning to check on something and found a comment from Kim that made me LOL! Kim feels that I need to try harder to get to my stamping room- rotfl!!! I have been so busy to the point of stress lately and I sooooooo needed her comment to lighten things up- thanks Kim :-) !!!! You totally made my day brighter!

To that end... here is my project :-). My ladies made this a couple of weeks ago in stamp class. We all ordered the Christmas Cheer Simply Scrappin' Kit in July so we could make these in the August class. They all did a great job making theirs and now all they have to do is add some embellishments and photos and they are good to go. Here's the cover of our 6x6 flip albums...
We used 'Dasher' on our cover. Isn't he awesome?! I'm so glad that Dasher carried over into the new catalog. He is one of my very favorite stamps :-)!

Next is the inside just as you open the cover.

This is a photo of the book opened part of the way. It stretches out from 6x6 to about 24 inches fully opened, if I re-call my measurements correctly ;-).

The left panel- the right panel matches the left one exactly....

And last, but not least- the very center panel.

These little flip books are completely awesome little books and never fail to get a "wow" from someone opening the book for the first time. They are just too cool!!! If you would like the instructions for making these, please visit Jenny's Blog. You will need to look on the right sidebar and scroll down a little way past the middle point. Look for the 'I Wish Flip Album Stamp Class'. Her tutorials are very reasonably priced and very well written with lots of photos. Once you purchase the instructions- you can use any card stock, DSP, and other Stampin' Up! products to create dozens and dozens more for gifts. Well worth the investment!!

I haven't finished decorating my flip book yet because I like to see what photos I'm going to use first :-). But I think I'm going to get two more kits and make these for my girls for their stockings. They'll love them! All right- now I am going to get back to my busy life :-). Have a wonderful and blessed weekend everyone!!!!!!

Blessings!
Barb PS- I am locking myself in my stamping room on Monday!!! No school and no housework for me!!!!!
